sharp upper middle abdoninal pain

by Mary
(Lagos, Nigeria)

Thanks for this great enlightenment you have provided here. I am asthmatic. I had hysterectomy four weeks ago. I had severe pains because my body is allergic to many of the pain killers and sedatives, so I was not given. I have been experiencing severe pain in my middle upper abdomen intermittently, mostly after eating. since after the surgery I have acute constipation. Please what could be causing this excruciating Pain?

Dear Mary,

Thank you for your kind words regarding our free online services and info here.

You report that you have been experiencing severe pain in your middle upper abdomen intermittently, mostly after eating.

That pain you've described does sound like pain from irritation of the lining of the wall of your stomach called gastritis.

In severe cases, such irritation could lead to stomach ulcer.

I will suggest you see your doctor to examine you again and perhaps start you on antacid like Gaviscon and Omeprazole (or Lansoprazole or pantoprazole, depending on what is readily available).

You will need some laxatives like lactulose to help with your constipation too.

I hope this helps.

Please do not hesitate to contact us again, should you require any further information.

Good Health To You.
