Lower Right Abdominal Pain

by Jo Anderson
(Jacksonville, Fla)

I have been having lower right side abdominal pain, which is very severe at night and travels to lower back. The pain is so bad that It make me feel like I am dying when I walk or try to move, after going to bed at night. I have had my appendics remove and I have a partial hysterectomy, I have a history of bowel obstruction.

Hi Ms Jo Anderson,

It certainly sounds like you are in a lot of pain!
How long has this lower right side abdominal pain been going on for? Is there any other associated symptoms like nausea or indeed vomiting? Do you feel bloated? Are you opening your bowels normally?

I am concerned that you are experiencing this level of pain, described as making you "feel like I am dying". I am also concerned, because you have had major surgery in the past, with a history of bowel obstruction. How old are you, if you don't mind? Is there any weight loss? What is the colour of your stool? What about your appetite?

If your symptoms have not resolved by now, please make your way to the ER. There is a high chance that this may be a case of sub-acute bowel obstruction from adhesion from your previous surgery.

It is also important to exclude ovarian problem or diverticular disease.

I look forward to hearing back from you soon.

I've suffered with this the past three years a chronic case of lower right abdomal pain I've had several colonoscopies, endo's, scans the whole 9 yards. last year I was hospitalized a weekx 2 for gi bleeding, the direct source was never found.I do suffer with IBS, diverticulitis, this pain seems to never completely go away, If I press my lower rt abdomen I burp, The pain worsens with movement. In the area of my lower rt ovary , if I hold that area the pain lessens, I really need some answers colon cancer runs deeply in my family and it"s never found until it has mastastized,my mother had it in 2011, very severe case, I'm not panic, but I am concerned

Lower right abdominal area
by: Anonymous

I have been having severe pain in the lower right side of the abdominal area. It does not occur all the time but only when I get up in the morning; it feels like I could take a fall. The only relief is a pain pill or sitting in the recliner for awhile. I have had a cat-scan and it shows gall stones but my pain is not in the upper part of the abdominal area but down much lower. It feels like body structure is out of alignment. I have slept in all the different beds and away from home and it will occur under these conditions as well. Just finished having the worse one that lasted from yesterday morning till noon today. It was painful to lie down so slept in the recliner last night and the pain went away today at noon. I am now feeling fine.

chronic appendicitis?
by: Anonymous

I get lower right side pain chronically for the last two years.I get slightly nauseous and have vomited occasionally. It can be sharp or dull and often goes into my lower back and down my leg.I seem to get constipated too but the pain lasts longer than the constipation.I drink plenty of water though.I get fatigued and feel faint at times.Pain killers like ibuprofen help only a little.Sleeping eases the pain somewhat but it comes back after Im up and moving around.Ive been checked for gynocological problems but they found nothing.I think I have chronic appendicitis even though its rare.

Night pains

I have a similar issue that has happened a few times over the last 6 weeks. Either while in bed, or when about to go to bed I get an abdominal pain on my right side near the bottom of my ribs, often I get hot and start sweating. Not long after this starts I also get a pain on the mid side of my right back. If I am laying down I always get up as the pain hurts less.

Every other time than right now I've thrown up and the pain has gone away. Today it happened about 15 hours ago, and I've taken a nap and its still here. I tried to force myself to vomit so the pain would go away (or so I hoped) but was unable to vomit anything of substance.

This is the 3rd time in 6 weeks this has happened to me, and while this one is the longest, it also hurt the least. In the first 2 times it happened I also felt like dying.

I will be making a trip to my local clinic tomorrow morning. The only problem I have is (aside from my obvious one I described) I have found other people writing about similar conditions/problems over the last few years, and test after test without any answers. If anyone has found an answer for anything like this please post what you found out.
