ER found nothing

by Sue Mattson
(Ada, Ohio, USA)

I'm a 42 year old female with no health issues. I have had extreme pain in right side right below my breast. It had lasted three days so I went to the ER and they ran many tests including a catscan. they said that I didn't have any gallstones and sent me home with no answers and the pain.

The pain subsides if i do not eat but as soon as I do the extreme pain returns within hours. The er doctor said that the pain could still be from my gallbladder not functioning correctly even though stones were not present. Is this true? They said to follow up with my family doctor and get additional tests of the gallbladder but everything that I read states that there has to be stones for the pain.

I have no allegeries to any medications and I did have a c-section ten years ago.

I also had the same symptoms but fortunately my ER did extensive testing; found no stones, but that it was "sludgy". Had it removed and no further problems.

still may be gallbladder
by: Anonymous

You may have an infection of the gallbladder without gallstones. Gallstone attacks usually last several hours, while Cholecystitis
(inflammation/infection of the gallbladder) may last days or weeks. Jaundice, fever and vomiting suggest you should get your blood tested asap.

I KNOW THE FEELING

You do not have to have stones to have pain...and I am one of them. Mine seems to be triggered by food and get severe crampting in mid-abdomen and going to the bathroom and then vomiting at times.
