Ankle Injury And Swimming

by kenz
(United States)

My cousin is with me and we thin she sprained her ankle. It is swollen and being iced daily. We want to go swimming and think it ill be good for her ankle is it okay?

Hello Kenz,

Thanks for using our free online doctor services.

The cardinal principle of managing ankle sprain involve:

Rest, Ice Compression and Elevation, coupled with adequate pain killers.

Despite the Rest advice, we often say that do what you are comfortable with, but do not put too much strain on the ankle.

If she can swim with it without much pain (as tolerated), then why not?

I hope this helps.

Please do not hesitate to come back to us, should you have any further query.
